Retreat
an exhibition of photography by Wendy Le Ber Retreat: a place or space, inner or outer, where there is room to breath more easily. Where we can stop for a moment or a while and come back to ourselves and re-connect to our heart and souls.Living in this busy borough of Waltham Forest in the capital city of London, connected to our mobile phones and i-pods, bombarded by advertising and the media, with the streets and buildings encircling us, it can be hard to find the wider and deeper connections that really sustain us in life.
Stepping out of these conditions and unhooking these mobile connections, sitting on a park bench, like those in Lloyd park or Coronation Gardens, among the roses or lavender, gives us an experience of retreat. Walking through the nature reserve, The Water Works, looking at the swans or listening to the birds sing, naturally refreshes us within this natural world.
These photographs were taken in the spirit of retreat and of some of the spaces that we have in Waltham Forest where we can take a moment out of our life and return the richer for it.
