E17 Arts Trail 2007
As part of the 3rd annual Arts Trail Wendy presents:Gardens of Delight
Gardens of Delight a celebration of the garden in Waltham Forest An exhibition celebrating the garden and bringing together people in Waltham Forests photographs of their gardens. Showing the delight they take and gain from their gardens, whether they are balcony sized or much bigger. The exhibition also includes images by Wendy Le Ber (Padmayogini) who is the curator the exhibition. There is a magic in gardens, the magic of life, growth and renewal and the cycles of change. It is something we may take for granted, but the activity of planting, sowing and reaping the fruit of our labour, touches and connects us to human history down millennia, and to the universal forces that gave rise to our birth.
Gardens inspire us and provide a haven for wildlife in the city, including hedgehogs, foxes, birds and bees. Without our city gardens many birds and insects would be under threat. We recognise our connection when we put out food for them, and take delight in watching the young birds on the branch, calling for food from their hard pressed parents.
Gardens bring forth flowers, fruit and vegetables, how satisfying and pleasurable it is, tasting the first home grown tomato or strawberry, or picking the first apple. Gardens provide us with our own sports venue, places to read, sunbathe, entertain and relax. They provide us with a chance to connect more deeply with the earth and other elements. We are in touch with the cycles of nature in our gardens, the process of renewal and change. There is a delight and deep sense of peace to be had sitting in our gardens, surrounded by plant growth, with the sound of bird songs and the whirl and hum of insects. There is shared delight in watching our children’s amazement as the sunflower they grew keeps growing as if by magic, above their heads, taller and taller.
Come and be surrounded by the delights of the garden at the central library Walthamstow, 1st September to the 9th September 2007
