Describing our Inner Guide

Talk by Padmayogini from the 2006 Inner Guide workshop

One way that we can start to connect with our inner guide is to think of associations, positive associations or images of ourselves. For instance if we are thinking about motherhood, generosity and abundance we may have the colour yellow in mind. We might want to start by experimenting with using the colour yellow, in paint or crayons and with collage or through our clothes or home environment.

It may be that we feel empathy is one of our strong points ,and we may have a colour such as Rose or magenta or perhaps a deep calming green that signifies this quality for us.

There may be particular shapes that come to mind circles, spirals, triangles, flame shape, squares or rectangles, stars or moons. We can start experimenting with these shapes and slowly allow them to give form to our qualities and our Inner voice.

When we want to come more directly in contact with our inner guide, we can start to ask ourselves what does my guide look like?
For example:

What colour shape or form does it have?
Is it like a stream or a rock , a mountain or a bird or an animal or some other being?
Is it a quality or a light?
Does it make a sound, how does it want to communicate with me?
Can I describe my inner guide through, music, poetry, or dance?
Does it have any of the qualities of the elements, earth water, fire, air, or space?

Reflecting on these questions will bring our inner guide to life more and more deeply and we may find that we can use a number of ways in which to connect with this rich and subtle aspect of ourselves.
