Artists I Admire

Cecil Collins

One of the artist that I admire is Cecil Collins, he talks about the purpose of poetic painting which is to arouse poetic emotion In those who behold It by means of symbols.
The artist’s vocation is to create vision to awaken man’s real self. So the artist is at service to the spiritual which he sees as one of the truly functional needs of the community and that in this way the artist can give to humanity the deepest experience of reality.
the artist needs to be concerned with something beyond his art, for Cecil Collins knowledge of externals is meaningless unless it has a context.
He says that reality is the wholeness the mysterious unity of life itself, which explains why for Collins a picture must live on many different levels at once.

a few quotes

“A Tree is the realisation of the seed of it’s own nature”

“Man’s capacity for sacrifice has too long been exploited, we must develop his capacity for joy in life”

“There is something more important than being wise and that is to love freely and unendingly, letting everything grow and flow in its own nature, not trying to impose our nature but by being alive oneself in such a way as to bring others alive too.”
