Reflecting Autumn Colours 2 - 2006

The colour of the autumn trees here is magnificent and their reflections in the water highlight the beauty of the gold reds, browns and oranges of the leaves contrasting with the blue and green reflection of the sky and grass.
Reflections like shadows indicate or symbolise the form but when the water is disturbed the form is gone. We are made aware of the transient nature of our experience or perception.

One of the ways that we oriented ourselves during the year is through the changes to the trees during the seasons. We see that the branches of the deciduous trees in winter are bare and we delight in the strong shapes and forms of the trees revealed to us.
Then there is the bright spring green of the trees newly in growth, especially bright and delicious leaves of the Lime trees and the Hawthorn, both new leaves have been eaten traditionally.
In summer trees take on a fullness with darker leaves and fruit forming.
Then comes Autumn, with the fiery displays of Maples and Beech, Sycamore and Chestnut trees. The apple tree are full of fruit , hedgerow Elderflower and wild rose are all stocked with berries, and as the leaves start to fall we know that Winter will be here again soon.
