In this Springtime
Parvis Khazrai
Translated from the Persian by Joan Mac Dougall, in collaboration with the poet
In this Springtime
The tree
Became my heart’s accomplice
And showed me
How to mother the water
To perfume the earth
The tree
Contemplated it’s roots
And pointed to my feet
It told me not to worry
If the clouds denied their rain
The tree waved it’s branches
And taught my numbed fists
To agitate
This coming spring
I shall sing constantly
Without fear
This spring
I shall fight
In the wind
Like the tree
